The Malta Ship Registry’s placed in the Top 20 for the first time in the Paris MOU’s list, placing 17th overall, following a 3-year long rolling period of inspections and detentions.
Commenting on this achievement, Transport Minister Ian Borg mentioned that the Malta Ship Registry doubled in size over the past 7 years, reaching over 83 Million tonnage.
An increase of 7% was registered in both Ship and Superyacht registrations in 2019. Malta’s fleet consists of 837 superyachts – with 37 were registered in the first months 2020. The Maltese Ship registry contributes to over 14% of the islands’ Gross Domestic Product.
Malta has recently done well also on the TOKYO MOU list placing 17th overall.
The Malta flag ranks 1st in Europe and the 6th largest globally.
