In his speech, Mr Catani called on the Maltese government to continue the investment and improvement in Malta’s ports as there is a renewed emphasis for greater capacity on ships – not only to support the growing trade but the energy transition. He highlighted GNV’s strong connection with Malta, which has grown significantly over the past decade, with cargo volumes showing double-digit growth in 2024.

Focusing on the cargo sector, GNV has been increasing its transport capacity to better serve customers. In 2023, the company saw an increase in linear meters transported of 9.3% from 2022, with further growth expected in 2024. GNV operates two ro-ro cargo ships that provide regular service between Malta, Genoa, and Palermo, handling a variety of goods.
